Edit: It's impossible

what about a platformblock with a hole in the middle?

Image It could even be divided in two with a top and a bottom half. It would be similar to the ones which already exist in Bay

how big did you say that hole should be? ^^
Image

something like this maybe? I think cutting it in quarter is better since they can be used for wall then as well...

damn I really need to speak more clearly, since you always seem to misunderstand XD

In my image the 4 represent the height, the z-axis, and the 1 represent the length/width of the x/y-axis. But I'm actually glad you misunderstood, because those look really nice as well o_o I think you should have some thickness though, so it isn't paperthin on the sides.

This was more of what I meant.

New idea: Make a transition block between the vertical and horizontal tunnels =))

yeah, if you say "hole" I picture a hole that goes down. I think if you had just said that "tube" I would have understood it immediately. It would also be easier to understand the block sizes if you used as a standard block the sizes x=32 y=32 z=8. So for example in your case you could have said: x=32 z=32 y=?
Just a suggestion though ^^

The block I made you can just rotate and you get your tube:

That looks nice =)

Although maybe it's be better if it were slightly narrower, so it wasn't so thin at the edges(as thick as roads and loops and wallrides are, to make for better transitions)

yeah I can (will) make a second version with thicker walls...
Finished the alphabet objects. They are not only nice to look at...but can also act as platform walls. The borders are also fun to drive on ^^

H looks nice. C could probably be a loop. A could be a nice jump. awesome :dd

Mind making some low-poly versions too, because I'm really concerned about the coppercount of some of your models hawk :P

Most of my models are already as low poly as possible with the geometry that they have. If I went any farther with the optimization 3dsmax would cut holes inside the geometry....
For example in this pic the copper price is from left to right: 9, 2, 1, 1, 1, 30
(yep..that last one is a sucker)

I found some interesting fonts and extruded their outlines. Image

I'm especially proud of this one:

I really wish more people would start making objects, it's so much fun!

No memes please. That be silly imho...
It's vacation this next week (easter), so I may or may not do anything productive, but so far you're doing such a great job that what I'd do would probably be a disappointment :P

Maybe I should start with this: Image

I don't know if this would be too hard, but various gates and statues/fountains would fit for all kinds of tracks (and statues wouldn't have to have their skin modded) Just some ideas ^^

yeah I did that trollface just for fun. Could be nice to have though for placing at the end of sections that go nowhere, where the player is misled into going.
That symbol is a great object to start with. If you can do that it I will be impressed. I actually tried to make it too earlier today...but the font I used only had a crappy version of that symbol and so I decided against it ;)

A double-CP in one CP could be useful, if that's possible. So like the 2-block bump a 2-block CP in both directions.

But you cannot get them to trigger via models? aw.

AFAIK(As far as I know) I don't think that is possible. It would be very nice, and maybe in the future, but the current models are very basic, and they are indeed very limited.

FAKE CPS AND FINISH LINES AND START BLOCKS WOULD BE ANNOYING. omgs
really....I can't think of any other purpose than to annoy people...or am I missing something?
But this talk of CPs made me remember that CPs in Stadium RPGs sometimes really don't fit in with the rest of the design. So objects like this one would be great to have imo:
Image

Here are two more objects....a very narrow loop (yes it IS possible)...and an epic helix. So much fun to drive down.

Fake start blocks would be used to copy the start of the map, forcing the player into believing he was at the same point he started the track at, only it wasn't, it's just a copy :D

wowowowowowoowowoww... i want to create blocks too... you've triggered my enthousiasm, man! :D

also, i second eie with his call for fake start- and finish blocks. if used well, it could be nice. by the way, would it be possible to assign a 'finish line' or 'checkpoint line' to a custom block?

by the way, great extrusion of fonts and wingdings. as a graphic designer i sure will make a font track one day. ;)

"wowowowowowoowowoww... i want to create blocks too... you've triggered my enthousiasm, man!"

That is so good to hear. That's exactly what I wanted to achieve....to have some more people creating objects. Maxi031 and I can't create them all by ourselves. I really hope we can build up a good active team =)

But look here...one more person jumping on board....Beep creating his first objects (I did the conversion for him): Image

This one is for the experts :D

No new objects...but some combined can be seen here:

My only problem is that I have to clean my disk if I am to download these 3d-modelling and conversion programs, and if I get myself to do that, I'll probably make a guide for newbies.

But I want to know, how many shapes and figures do we really need, we shouldn't make things too complex either, or what? =P

a tutorial, i'd like that. i worked with solidworks in the past, but that experience has faded by now. :D

maybe a little guidance would be nice when 'production' starts. maybe different sets of blocks: a general set that nicely expands the standard blocks, an egyptian set for example, a typography set, and obviously if someone wants to make a new set that's possible too. not strict guidance is necessary, but maybe some kind of categorizing?

I just recorded myself making an object in 3ds max...I will probably upload it later.
Why do you have to clean your disk eie? 3ds max is not that big. Solidworks is a different story though (12GB...what a monster program) :D Beep uses Solidworks for his object-making btw. If you have any questions JJ maybe you can ask him...

And well...about the categorizing....there definitely needs to be some guidance with what I envision. We would need at least:
- objects for simple 3d modelling (very basic shapes). Around 200 objects maybe at first.
- organic shapes (some trees, rocks, cliffs etc)
- complex architectural / ornamental / scenery objects
- Stadium blocks (especially if we won't get a TMunlimiter any time soon)
- Lighting objects (a bird whispered to me that we might get lucky on that one)
- objects dedicated to actual driving

....there's probably more but that's what I came up with right now.
Right now the texturing is also a big question. That will need a lot of coordination. If we have to use those huge textures that I spoke of we would have to figure out the best way to split up that texture. Also deciding which parts of that texture to use on which objects....lots of managment.
I'm a bit scared actually that we will fuck this up xD
We should definitely also have a Beta phase in which to test the first version of the RPG title pack. Once we release a title pack officially it will be painful to update objects....so we have to get them right the first time.

Btw. check this (hotkeys for object placement): Maniapark
