Star Wars IV review by HawkGer

Here is a small review I initially wrote for the ManiaExchange blog:

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

The Galactic Empire has built a weapon powerful enough to destroy an entire planet. It is called the Death Star. Rebel spies have stolen the plans to the Death Star, which could expose its fatal weakness. Princess Leia, who has the stolen plans, is being chased by Storm Troopers and the sinister Darth Vader. You must find the Death Star and destroy it before the rebel base is destroyed.

You might think: what has this to do with TrackMania? Well, what you were reading is the Intro text for the Canyon RPG track Star Wars IVand it gives you a good idea of what this track is all about. Basically you take up the role of the viewer and relive the events of Star Wars Episode IV, starting from the capturing of Princess Leia's Starship and ending with the destruction of the first Death Star (duh, spoilers^^)

What sounds like a story track is actually a story track embedded in an RPG track. The RPG elements are not too difficult to master even for non-RPG drivers. Sometimes there is a bit of searching involved in finding the next CP...but I found this to only enhance the realism of the story line. The first drive probably takes the average player a little over an hour to finish.

The story is told with the use of a lot of cut-scenes that make heavy use of MT. If you are not immediately captivated by the entrance of Darth Vader in the first cut-scene then I really don't know what will. The track design is also made really well to match the Star Wars atmosphere. Here are a few screens (that I will not comment on so as to not spoil the story too much):

All in all this mix of RPG and story track works really well. It produces an atmosphere and realism hardly paralleled by any other track. The track is so much fun to drive and explore. There are eye-candies waiting at every corner.
That's why I whole-heartedly recommend this track to anyone, not just Star Wars lovers, RPG fans or Story Track enthusiasts. As an RPG fan I have to say though that I'm really glad that this rare beauty found its way into Canyon after an eternity of no new Canyon RPGs being released.

Yes, really great track with fantastic atmosphere,... and like hawkger said, I'm not a great fan of canyon, but this one makes me really happy,.. :)

Well first ride takes me 40 minutes of "pathfinding",... and end with a great dramatic scene, I couldn't take princessin leia out of their prison,.. ;) next time then I hope to take her out,...

perhaps rpg canyon make it interesting for me to play,...

so far,.. greetz,...
