Trackmania 2

Questions and thoughts about RPG in general

Postby eie » 08.08.2011, 10:53

Hey, someone here likes to build fast paced RPGs. I still think RPG is possible even after reading your opinion. Not it might not be the same, but it just might be something. I not able to build anything yet, but I got the impression that the car can do some pretty sharp turns, you just got to learn how to do the drifting. And are you sure there isn't any lighting blocks to glow in the dark rooms? And if not, I'll just make another "A trip to the hills"-like track, where everything is outside.
The car physics itself might make it really hard to make a hardcore RPG map, since you've lost most of the air control, but there seems to be a few positive sides. The car mostly land on its wheels, even after flipping. The car also seem to be very easy to manoeuvre, and is capable of doing pretty precise jumping, so I haven't lost all hope yet.

But we'll have to wait and see how the rest of the community reacts when the game is released =) *optimistic*

occam wrote:We just saw a video from Ionian, Trackmania 2 FXcameramap ( - 720p HD - 1080p HD - ) which shows that is is possible to place pictures on blocks, still bit buggy...but the possibilty alone...thing of 'old-Bronx-styled' stuff with nasty Graffitis :->>

What this means is that we can effectively add a mod to a map, except the mod is not a mod, just layers over the existing textures. This will have a lot of potential (even if it kills some older computers, if it's too demanding for them) if you want to have different textures on the same blocks. This could mean you could add some cracks or paintings on walls etc. and it might add a really cool effect on maps.

I'm just speculating, and this isn't the final version, so things might change to the worse ^_^

[Copied this from TMX, since it seems you did so too =P

On another note: It will be possible to place blocks directly on water and cliff edges, so there will be a lesser need of a blockmixing program.

heyo!

so... i watch the clips, but something are not funny... a lot of things...
we wait this title for years, a lot of years, and this is NOT what i want to see;
is like a clone with only more shadows, with more "no use part of the map", with "oh look i have a scribe on my car when i smash something"...but the rest of the game is the same of Trackmania United Forever;

but luckily 5 minutes ago i watch this trailer, about another game... i think this is better about the creation of the track; not only about creations of the maps

Ridge Racer Unbounded Video Game, Create Or Destroy Trailer | Video Clip | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com?

so... if Trackmania 2 is the same of the first Trackmania... i dont understand why i have to say "WOW!"
and i dont know why i have to buy it; 20 euro only for Canyon? and other modes?

these clips makes me sad... :(

What were you really expecting? (serious question)

And please don't kill the hype :D

(Remember, people are still learning how things works, so even if things are looking a bit boring now, things might still change as people learn how to use the new features more effectively)

:D
now i can make a 0.001s map!

although i agree with eon, graphics might be amazing but that's not what makes a game fun, when the gameplay is the same as the game we are playing since years.. anyway, can't tell a lot only watching videos^^

I see some here know a little about TM2 now. Just want to make a comment about what HawkGer said about it being to dark if in closed areas. Even in day mood if it's to dark you can go into the mediatracker and add a trigger to turn your headlights on and then you can see very well. With all the capabilities in TM2 I think you rpg guys will love it :thumbsup:

thx PCC =)
and yep...Skeleton is right..I was too quick to jump to a conclusion at first. Especially the udate with the new blocks and floodlights made me much more optimistic. We will see what will come of it and if it can ever reach the fun level of stadium rpg :)

Now here's an eye candy for you (Cryo Canyon...made for eie)

Wait for full version and look.

For me united is better ( in stadium ) as tm2 in canyon.

But i mean the editor is easier as united

If you install TM2 in default location the original mod is called TMCanyon_HD.zip and it's located in C:\ProgramData\ManiaPlanet\PacksCache but this is on Vista. And if you create a mod it needs to go into Documents\ManiaPlanet\Skins\Canyon\Mod\

Another Mod for TM2, not sure if I got hypnotized by its high quality, or if this actually could be any good for RPG.
